He said that I got this opportunity because he was not able to get Vidhya Balan’s call sheet and moreover this is a surprising role. I agreed to act in this role because I liked the character and also I was being introduced in Tamil.

But nobody was injured. Again we commenced the journey to Chennai; one of the wheels broke away from the van. Luckily we all escaped. One of our members who had left the vehicle met with an accident and was seriously injured . May be because of him, the fate has also chased us. The same way there is a delay for this film also.
Padhinaaru Vayadhinilae broke all the barriers and was a great hit. Similarly this film will also be a great hit. I was not scared when I did my first film. I am scared now because this film is getting delayed. I will make the people who know Tamil as heroine. Oorvasi, Saritha, Shobana who have paired with me knew Tamil very well. That is why we were able to work well. Shanthini who is the heroine of Siddhu knows Tamil very well. She acted well. Rajesh and Kanga Karuppu have acted in this film. Rattha Charithram on November 19?

Soon as Suriya announced that they are planning to release the film for Diwali, it was a joyful restrain for his fans. But again, it was a confusing call as Dayanidhi Azhagiri is vigorously promoting the film ‘Va Quarter Cutting’ as Diwali release. Two films under the same banner released on the same occasion are often not recommended for.

Likely, the release date of Rattha Charithram is likely to get postponed during second or third week of November. According to the sources, there is a sort of gentleman’s agreement that the Tamil version should be released along with second part of Hindi and Telugu.

As known earlier, Telugu and Hindi RC will be released in two parts while Tamil version with a single part release. Factually, Vivek Oberoi and Ram Gopal Varma have huge fans following them in Hindi regions while the film based on Parithala Ravi has urged Telugu cohorts to watch it by all means. But as with accordance to Tamil audiences, the film is to be marketed purely for ‘Suriya’ factor.

The first parts will not have much importance of Suriya as the complete film is about the growth and rise of Parithala Ravi from a gangster to a politician while the second part is about Maddelacheruvu Suri’s combat with Ravi.

Samuthirakani’s Next Movie Poraali With Sasikumar

Samuthirakani is ready to start his next venture. “He has named the film ‘Poraali’ and his good friend Sasikumar will play an important role in it,” say circles close to the actor-director.

The relationship between Samuthirakani and Sasikumar dates back to ‘Subramaniapuram’ days, when the former played the pivotal ‘Chithappa’ role in the trendsetter movie directed by the latter

After a while, Sasikumar played one of the protagonists in ‘Nadodigal’, directed by Samuthirakani. And now sources have it that Samuthirakani is doing a pivotal role in Sasikumar’s directorial venture ‘Nagaram’.

“This shows the depth of friendship shared by Sasikumar and Samuthirakani,” sources add. Samuthirakani’s last directorial venture was the Telugu film ‘Sambho Shiva Sambho’, which is a remake of ‘Nadodigal’.

'Angaadi Theru' Shifts to Andhra Pradesh

Continuous success of Telugu dubbed movies from Kollywood has urged distributors in Andhra Pradesh to try their hand of luck in many projects. Vasantha Balan’s ‘Angaadi Theru’ is next one to join this bandwagon. The film’s Telugu version will hit screens in Andhra Pradesh during second week of September.

The dubbing rights have been acquired by Kodenthara Suresh of SK Pictures and the Telugu dialogues have been penned by filmmaker Veenilakandi’s son Shashank.

As Anjali has a flair command over her mother tongue Telugu, she has dubbed with her own voice.

‘Angaadi Theru’ performed decent at box office and was the only commendable flick produced by Ayngaran International as all its previous films didn’t spin them profits.

Vamsam Movie Review

Starring: Arulnidhi, Sunaina, Ganja Karuppu
Direction: Pandiraj
Music: Taj Noor
Production: M K Thamizharasu

The brouhaha associated with Vamsam has been on the high for two reasons. Primarily, it is due to director Pandiraj who had earned well deserved recognition in his very first venture Pasanga and hence his audiences are eagerly looking forward to his second project. Secondarily, the scion of the first family of Tamil Nadu, M K Arulnidhi enters the world of glitterati as hero and naturally the curiosity levels are at an all time high to assess the young man. Besides these two factors, the voluble promos in the media have also spiced up the proceedings.
Vamsam

At the outset, in Vamsam, Pandiraj has attempted to record the life styles, the culture, traditions of a community called Devar in the interior Tamil Nadu. There are 11 sects belonging to this community who are well known for a particular trait; one for rendering unequivocal justice, one for revenge, one for adventure sports etc.

Kishore belongs to the tribe which excels in rekla, silambam and other such games and always comes up trumps in any activity that he is involved in. Jayaprakash on the other hand belongs to the sect which avenges any form of humiliation. Not withstanding Kishore’s triumphs, he kills him mixing poison in his liquor. Jayaprakash’s intentions are to completely erase the clan of Kishore. However Kishore’s wife, who was pregnant during the time of her husband’s death, decides to raise her offspring away from the habits of her husband which brought him his untimely end. Fortunately for her, Jayaprakash spares her son.

Arulnidhi, son of Kishore is a very timid boy, a post graduate in Botany who minds his business. Unable to manage a cow (Asin), he sells it to Sunaina’s family but Asin runs back to Arulnidhi’s house. This leads to interesting interactions between the couple which ultimately blossom into love. Asin plays the messenger of love between the couple and the reason for their frequent meetings.

Meanwhile, Sunaina’s father who belongs to the clan of giving out justices, hands out a verdict in favor of Jayaprakash’s servant who was ill treated by him. Irked by the disgrace Jayaprakash kills him. Upset by this, Sunaina throws a pail of dung over Jayaprakash’s face in open street which is the pinnacle of ignominy for a person in the community. This triggers the series of revenge episodes in a relay fashion and where it all leads and ends form the rest of Vamsam.

In the department of performances, a deglamorized Sunaina takes the cake revealing that she can deliver any type of role. Although Arulnidhi fits the role of a docile, educated boy, he has a long way to go. The sequences where the couple in love talk in botanical terms is something new to Tamil cinema in recent times and would be enjoyable for Botany students. Ganja Karuppu and Arulnidhi take care of comedy department which are enjoyable. Kishore delivers a neatly crafted performance and so is Jayaprakash.

The screen play does tend to get wobbly at times and meanders here and there making it to difficult to connect with the film. Although there are incidents of killing, they have not been depicted grotesquely. The Thiruvizha scenes stand out in their native grandeur and the camerawork by Mahesh Muthusamy is laudable. The explanation about killing during Thiruvizha times is something new.

Music director Taj Noor; an erstwhile assistant of A R Rahman, shows potential especially in the pada pada pattampoochi number. He is efficient and sure to go places with the right kind of opportunity.

Pandiraj is successful in showcasing the life of a community in its various facets which could be interesting to some. He has fused realism and cinematic elements in the right proportion and has sliced his way through the path less trodden with considerable aplomb this time also.

Verdict – Illustrious lineage!

‘I salute for Rajini’s commitment and determination’: Shankar

The veteran filmmaker Shankar who has worked with superstar Rajinikanth for the films ‘Sivaji the Boss’ and ‘Endhiran’ is heaping laurels on the legend actor.

He says “One should follow Rajinikanth to learn punctuality and dedication. He is a man of perfection. Many asked me how I could make a sci-fi film with Rajini in the lead as he is known for mass movies. My answer to them is anything is possible when Rajini sir is around because, he has that mass appeal.”

Shankar further says “Rajini was always punctual to work,” Shankar says and adds: “If the schedule is at 8.30 in the morning, he would arrive at the spot early in the morning itself. Popularity sits very lightly on his shoulders.”

He adds more “It would take almost six hours to do the makeup. But Rajini would wait with all patience. I salute his commitment and determination. He is one of the most comfortable heroes I’ve worked with.”

Superstars' Big Tickets From September

The first season of 2010 might not have been so promising for the film buffs, but you can expect a heavy downpour of big tickets from Superstars for the next half yearly period.

Enthiran: Rajnikanth’s magnum opus ‘Enthiran’ was supposedly reported to hit screens on September 3. Though it was an unconfirmed buzz, Sun Pictures COO Hansraj Saxena reafirms about releasing the film by first or second week of September. The film’s musical mania has exceeded everyone’s expectations and for the next coming days, it’s gonna be ‘Endhiran’ alone.

Manmadhan Ambu: Kamal Haasan’s yet another comedy entertainer with K.S. Ravikumar. The duo’s combination in ‘Avvai Shanmughi’, ‘Thenali’, ‘Pancha Thanthiram’ and ‘Dasavatharam’ have revealed of great success. The additional goldrush in film’s veins will be the presence of Madhavan and Trisha. The film is scheduled for Diwali as Udhayanidhi Stalin plans to do so.

Kaval Kadhal: Beginning of Vijay’s new era. Is it worth ennobling Ilayathalapathy’s next release ‘Kaval Kadhal’ with such terms? A right one indeed! Neither gushing punch dialogues nor the timeworn ingredients of his yesteryear films will be prevalent here. So, what you have got to expect is all about fun, romance and emotions. Kaval Kadhal is also being planned to get released for Diwali.

Rattha Charithram: Suriya’s first multilingual film has a big way for him. Ever heard about a welcome before an arrival? Precisely, Suriya owns this fortune as even the celebrities of Hindi and Telugu film industry have become his ardent fans after watching the teasers. The film’s release has been postponed to October now.

Utthamaputhiran: Family entertainers have always found a right place in box office. On the button, Dhanush-Genelia D’ Souza starrer ‘Utthamaputhiran’ will be a sure-footed family entertainer as the Telugu version ‘Ready’ has been a successful forerunner. With star-casts’ number running to monstrous figures, the film is expected to have right mix of comedy, romance, family and more elements.

With so many films slated for the releases, the exhibitors and distributors are so confident that the next season will yield them best results.

‘Jayam’ Ravi in ‘Boologam Movie’

Besides ‘Ich’ and ‘Aadhi Bhagavan’ in which he is currently busy with, ‘Jayam’ Ravi has signed one more project. Titled ‘Boologam’, the film will be directed by Kalyana Krishnan, a former associate of S P Jananathan.

Kalyana Krishnan, who penned screenplay for ‘Iyarkai’, ‘Ee’ and ‘Peranmai’, all directed by Jananathan, will take of story, screenplay and direction departments of ‘Boologam’, which will be produced by Aascar Films.

Since the movie is about a boxer, ‘Jayam’ Ravi will appear in a special look designed after much research. The actor is making rigorous workouts in gym to fit him to the role, say sources in the know.

“I have made intense research about Tamil Nadu and international boxing for the past five years. ‘Boologam’ will not be a usual film. ‘Jayam’ Ravi has agreed to increase his weight and tone up his body to look like a boxer,” the director says.

Vikram’s first Malayalam film

After much speculations about being in a Mollywood movie, Tamil superstar Vikram has decided to do his first Malayalam film for director Roshan Andrews. Roshan Andrews is the one who directed super hit movies like ‘Notebook’ and ‘Evidam Swargamanu’. He is also the director of ‘Udayanu Tharam’, which was later remade ‘Vellithirai’ in Tamil.
‘Cheeyan’ Vikram who never concealed his love for doing Malayalam films has finally decided on one. Roshan who had been an admirer of Vikram had met him last year in a function organised by a private channel. A few weeks back, they met again at a private function, where Vikram asked Roshan to suggest a good story in Malayalam so that he can take the plunge.
Few days later Roshan had sent a synopsis of a plot written by his writers Bobby-Sanjai. Vikram was immediately floored by the wonderful plot lines and immediately agreed to do it.
When Roshan discussed the remuneration part, Vikram is said to have told Roshan, “I will not take a single pie for the project. Let the film be my contribution to Malayalam cinema.” The project will off by the early 2011. Vikram has to complete his current projects and Roshan will also be ready by then finishing his much delayed film ‘Casanova’ with Mohanlal which is said to the costliest Malayalam film ever.

Samira Reddy: I love Gowtham Menon

Samira Reddy says,” I am a great fan of Gowtham Menon. Though my role was small in Vaaranam Aayiram, I got lot of fans because of him. I love Gowtham Menon.”

Samira Reddy was a glamour doll in Bollywood but Gowtham Menon made her dress modestly in the film Vaaranam Aayiram and showed her as a beautiful angel. Because of this film, Samira Reddy had got a good name in Tamil cinema. Now again she is acting in Gowtham Menon’s film. The film is being produced by Gowtham Menon and is titled Nadunisi Naaigal. Samira Reddy eyes widen when she speaks about this film.

She said,” You will see a different Samira Reddy in this film. This film will create great thrill in the theatres. This film and I will be much spoken. I am not interested in glamour roles alone. I like to journey in everything.

Though my role in Vaaranam Aayiram was small I was able to earn lot of fans. But I was the heroine in Asal but many people did not like that. Now I will be choosy and act in selected films. I am a great fan of Gowtham Menon. It is a great gift for me to act once again in Gowtham Menon’s film. I love Gowtham Menon.

Both Asal and Vaaranam Aayiram had good stories. Above all I like Ajith and Gowtham Menon. That is why I agreed to act in these films. That doesn’t mean that I will act in the films directed by popular directors. I liked the Tamil film Kaaka Kaaka very much. So when Gowtham Menon called me to act in Vaaranam Aayiram, I was thrilled.”

The stars are shining bright over Priyamani. The national award winning actress is still answering calls appreciating her good work in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Raavanan’. Now she has got another movie to showcase her talent. This time in Malayalam.
After her sterling performance with Vikram and Abhishek, Priyamani is all set to be the heroine of Mammootty in a Malayalam film. Titled as ‘Pranchiyettan And The Saint’, this movie will be her first film with the three times national award winning megastar Mammootty.
